Submitter notes: The Phylum is Chordata, Subphylum Vertebrata, Class Elasmobranchiomorpha, Subclass Placoderm, Order Arthrodire, suborder Brachythoraci, Family Coccosteidae, Genus Protitanichthys. This shows some of the thickness of the bony shield. US .25 coin for scale.

Submitter notes: This is a rather large and thick piece of Arthrodire fish armor from the Silica Shale at the Martin-Marrietta Quarry in Milan, Michigan. The shield shows sensory lines at the edges and the characteristic 'bumps' over the bone.
